OFSSP
Introduction

The Orissa Forestry Sector Support Project (OFSSP) is working to achieve pro-poor growth in Orissa by enhancing the employment and income generation opportunities available through the Orissa forest sector.

The project is part of the Government of Orissa’s Industrial Policy Review (IPR) which aims to improve the climate for socially and environmentally responsible investment and enterprise development. It is focusing on three specific sectors which are considered to have most potential for achieving pro-poor growth in Orissa: tourism, fisheries and forestry.

The project consists of four interconnected components:

  • Policy Studies- is to undertake reviews of key sectoral policy issues, including JFM, NTFPs, TOF, Eco- tourism, and Bamboo for Livelihoods.
  • Facilitating the development of a Human Resource Development and Management Strategy for the Orissa forestry Department and related entities, such as OFDC.
  • Development of a Communications Strategy.
  • Implementation of a series of pilot projects to test and demonstrate various mechanisms for achieving pro-poor growth and SFM as well as alternative livelihoods, and climate change mitigation and adaptation.
